DTF Pressing Instructions
How to Apply Your DTF Transfers
For the best results with your De Colores HTV & DTF transfers, use a quality heat press and follow the instructions below.
Recommended Press Settings
Temperature: 300°F–320°F
Press Time: 10–15 seconds
Pressure: Medium to firm
Peel: Follow the transfer type — cool or warm peel as appropriate
Because heat presses and garment materials can vary, a small test press is recommended before completing a large order.
Step 1: Prepare the Garment
Place the garment flat on the heat press and make sure the area is free from:
- Wrinkles
- Moisture
- Lint
- Dust
- Seams or obstructions beneath the pressing area
For best results, lint-roll the garment before pressing.
Step 2: Pre-Press
Pre-press the garment for approximately 3–5 seconds.
This helps remove moisture and wrinkles and creates a smooth surface for the transfer.
Step 3: Position the DTF Transfer
Place the transfer on the garment with the printed design facing upward and the adhesive side against the fabric.
Make sure the design is:
- Straight
- Centered
- Positioned correctly
- Free from folds or wrinkles
Step 4: Press the Transfer
Press at approximately:
300°F–320°F for 10–15 seconds using medium to firm pressure.
Do not move the garment or transfer while pressing.
Step 5: Peel the Film
After pressing, peel the carrier film according to the transfer's recommended peel method.
For transfers that require a cool peel, allow the transfer to cool before removing the film.
Peel slowly and evenly.
If part of the design begins lifting with the film, stop peeling, place the film back down, and press again for a few additional seconds.
Step 6: Second Press
After removing the carrier film, cover the design with:
- Parchment paper
- Kraft paper
- A protective finishing sheet
Press again for approximately 3–5 seconds.
This finishing press helps improve durability and gives the transfer a smooth, professional finish.
Fabric Considerations
DTF transfers work well on many fabrics, including:
- Cotton
- Polyester
- Cotton/poly blends
- Light garments
- Dark garments
Some specialty fabrics can be sensitive to heat. Always check the garment manufacturer's recommendations before pressing.
Important Heat Press Tips
For the best results:
- Use a heat press rather than a household iron
- Make sure your press provides even pressure
- Avoid pressing directly over thick seams, buttons, or zippers
- Test unfamiliar garments before production
- Do not exceed the garment's recommended heat tolerance
Aftercare
For longer-lasting prints:
- Wait at least 24 hours before washing
- Turn the garment inside out before washing
- Wash in cold or cool water
- Use mild detergent
- Avoid bleach
- Avoid fabric softener when possible
- Tumble dry on low or hang dry
- Do not iron directly over the printed design
Important Disclaimer
Heat presses, garments, and materials can vary. The settings above are general recommendations and may need slight adjustment depending on your equipment and fabric.
For large orders, we strongly recommend performing a test press first to confirm the correct temperature, pressure, and pressing time.
